A proper set up for a hip thrust will allow you to have the bottoms of your shoulder blades as your anchor point to your surface. However-some benches are too tall for this to happen naturally and easily.

While its no problem to simply scoot up the bench-sometimes this can feel awkward or is hard with a heavier weight.
