How to & when: to use a lifting belt

USING A LIFTING BELT
Should you be using a lifting belt? The answer is my favorite…It depends.

A lifting belt is used to assist you in your heavy lifts like Deadlifts, Squats, and even your Military Presses etc. This should not be used to learn how to brace your core properly or how to perform nice diaphragmatic breathing.

Adding a belt can enhance your natural weight lifting belt (your core). I would not suggest that anyone use a belt with weights less than 140-155lbs in deadlifts and if you feel like you need one in order to keep your brace you may want to take a step back and reevaluate your brace/breathing.

The belt will wrap around your core where you feel comfortable. Tighten the belt not too tight or too loose and then breathe laterally into the belt. Expanding that core out into the belt, bracing, using it as another layer of muscle to increase and assist your lift.

There are different belts so the choice is yours of what you want to use. Again this is a tool for you to use in your strength programming!

Let’s go lifting!
